ICT– Information & Communication Technology

Our goal is to develop Literacy with ICT (LwICT) in our students.  It is cross-curricular and focuses on critical and creative thinking, ethics and responsibility and ICT literacy. Literacy with ICT is the ability to find, evaluate, use and share information by thinking critically, creatively and ethically.  It is also about when, why and how to use ICT in responsible ways.  And, it is our philosophy that technology is a tool that serves us best when used to complement classroom curriculum and activities.

As well, a focus is made on the concept of digital citizenship that relates to the responsible, ethical, and safe use of ICT by students as members of society and citizens of the global community.

ESMS has a primary computer lab that is used for activities such as desktop publishing, research, planning and organizing, self-assessment, and multimedia projects.  A second lab is also available and is used mainly for additional classroom support (individual or small group work) with the aid of portable computing (laptops).  These portable computers are also used in classrooms and other special areas like the library with aid of our school-wide wireless network.

Our gymnasium and most classrooms are equipped with large-scale audio-videoprojection systems, and computers with multimedia tools and Internet access.

At ESMS we have an ICT Resource Teacher who is available to assist staff and students in planning and using ICT.
